AISI 1085 carbon steel balls offer a significant advantage in overall hardness, approximately 60/62 HRC, and offer superior wear and load resistance compared to standard low-carbon, hardened steel balls. They conform to the international equivalent standards AISI 1070/1085–B.S EN-8 EN-9 –C70/C80. High-carbon steel, with its high carbon content, is renowned for its high strength and hardness, but it is also more brittle than medium-carbon steel.

Carburized outer case, soft core, provides good load capacity, resistance to shock loads and surface wear. Non-heat treated carbon steel soft balls are also available applicated where the ball would need to be welded, modified, or drilled.
